Anita White Memorial Scholarship

Anita White Memorial Scholarship

Established in 1999 by members of Altrusa International of Raleigh. Altrusa was founded in 1917 as the first women’s civic service club. The Raleigh Club was organized in 1938. Two goals of Altrusa are to respond to literacy needs in the community and to be a builder of women. When the Raleigh Club Vice-President Anita White succumbed to lung cancer in 1997, it seemed appropriate to establish a scholarship in her memory that would respond to both of these goals. As a GRI residential specialist Anita headed her own company, Hood Buyer’s Realty. She was a community leader in her residential area, a caring neighbor, and a loving wife and mother. The scholarship seeks to support a single mother attending part or full time. Preference may be given to a GED/AHS graduate pursuing a degree, diploma or certificate at Wake Technical Community College.
